Josh is from Center Point, Iowa, a small town on the east side of the state, and was a 2015 graduate of Center Point-Urbana High School. During his prep years, he was active in speech, band and choir in addition to excelling in sports and academics. He was a multi-time state track qualifier in the 1600 and 3200 as well as on relay teams, with his 4x800 team winning state his senior year. Josh also was second at the state cross country championships his senior year.
At Drake University, he competed in cross country and track from 2015-2019 where he was a captain on the Bulldog team and a Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete. At Drake, he obtained degrees in Sociology and Rhetoric, focusing on media and social change. With a couple of seasons of NCAA eligibility left, he went to South Dakota State University to both continue his track career and pursue a master’s degree in Sociology.
His collegiate achievements include times of 3:47 in the 1500m, 4:03 in the mile, 7:58 in the 3000m, 8:48 in the steeplechase, and 13:42 in the 5000m which was a South Dakota State University school record. In 2021, Josh was named the Summit League Outdoor Track Championships MVP, and in 2018, received the Missouri Valley Conference Elite 17 Award.
Josh joined Minnesota Distance Elite in August 2021.
