Katy Moen (now Jermann) is a native of Iowa and was a prep athlete at Wapsie Valley High School. While there she won the 2009 Iowa State Cross Country Championships and ran a best in 4k cross country of 14:21. On the track, she was the 3000 meter State Champion and had personal bests of 2:19 in the 800m, 4:57 in the 1500m, and 10:19 in the 3000m.
During her running career at Iowa State University, she won two Big 12 Championships, received three All-American honors, and was named the USATFCCCA Midwest Women’s Regional Track Athlete of the Year. In the fall of her final year, the two-time cross country team captain helped lead the Cyclones – she finished 8th individually – to a runner-up team finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Her best time in 6k cross was 19:43.
Katy made two appearances in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships (2014 and 2015). She graduated with personal bests of 4:22 in the 1500m, 9:08 in the 3000m, 15:52 in the 5000m, and 33:09 in the 10,000m.
Katy joined Minnesota Distance Elite in July 2015.
