Heather Kampf to Compete at USA Indoor Championships Feb. 15 in Albuquerque; Colin Abert Runs 3:59 I

Minnesota Distance Elite’s Heather Kampf will be in Albuquerque this weekend to compete at the USATF Indoor Track Championships.  She is entered in the women’s 1500 meter race which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 2:42 p.m. (Pacific time).  The championships will be televised for two hours Saturday afternoon on NBC (check local listings for time).

Kampf started her indoor track season at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City on Jan. 18 with a win in the 3000m, followed by the Bruce Lehane Invitational in Boston on Feb. 1 where she finished fourth in the 1500m.

The four-time USA Road Mile champion has a best in the road mile of 4:19.80, in the track mile she has posted 4:27.23 and in the 1500m she has run 4:04.46.

The USA Indoor Championships were originally designated as a selection race for the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships which were scheduled for March 13-15 in Nanjing, China.  However, due to the coronavirus outbreak in China, the championships were postponed and are tentatively planned to be held in 2021.

Last month in Boston, Colin Abert competed in the mile at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 25 and was first in the second heat with a time of 3:59.70.  Combining the times of the first and second

heats, he was third overall.

Abert, who joined Minnesota Distance Elite last October, previously posted a sub-4 minute mile time of 3:59.51 while he was competing at Penn State University.
